Cuba’s Newest Delicacy: Microwaved Plantains

This week, in a historic first for Cuba, microwaves went on sale on the island nation for the first time, with models ranging in price from $140 to $320. The initiative is part of a wider loosening of long-standing restrictions on the sale of consumer goods and civil liberties that are being ushered in by Raul Castro as he works to define his regime in the wake of his brother’s retirement in February.
