Prediction: Branson Takes us to the Moon

It’s always fun to research old predictions about the future to see what came true and what didn’t. For example, we still don’t have flying cars, but we do have cell phones and satellite radio. Horray!

The science fiction blog io9 looks at a 1966 article published in the defunct magazine Co-ed, that gave readers a peek at future household technology. Alongside the dreams of curved glass houses and curtains that come in a spray can, the article mentions some wondrous inventions: computers, VCRs and GPS locators for tracking the kiddies.

Sir Richard Branson, Chairman of the Virgin Group and the man trying to bring space flight to the general public, thinks human colonies on other planets are needed to assure the continued existence of the human race. Instead of fretting over the ways that human life could be wiped off the Earth, Branson says we need to hedge our bets by making sure humans are living on other planets and moons too. Virgin Galactic Airways are going to get us there. Or not. Check back in 40 years.
