Did The Mob Take Spitzer Down?
The New York Post reports today that in a new epilogue in the paperback version of “King of the Club,” the sensational story of the rise and fall of Richard Grasso, author Charles Gasparino argues that it was actually the Gambino crime family that brought down longtime organized crime fighter Eliot Sptizer. “Spitzer’s hooker girlfriend, Ashley Dupre, apparently had some friendship with someone alleged to be one of the family’s associates,” writes Gasparino, basing the theory on accounts from a private eye named Bo Dietl. Hello! Spitzer should have known better than to mess with the mob and with hookers! The two always go together. Here’s blogger Phil Weiss, who wrote about Spitzer for New York magazine, on the mind of the powerful, married man.
