Re: What's the right response to rising gas prices?

I think LOTS more gas money should be diverted to public subways, buses, etc. including lower fares so people will see this as a viable alterntive to one person per car driving daily.  Tax highways, divert money.  Tax parking, divert money.  Now we're left with another difficulty - are our politicians accountable and amenable to doing what we ask them - or are we simply apathetic and thus non demanding of the people we've entrusted to make changes.
