Reason can give explanations, but it is not always based on a factual foundation. people like to joke about the response of the church to heliocentrism, but the position of the church was based on the reasoning of the time. People seek truth through reason, but the reasoning can only lead to truth if it builds upon a foundation of truth itself, which is somewhat paradoxical.
