I agree with coyote, but lets not forget marriage is usually "safe sex", as routine and unfulfilling as it may become. Ego is not tested as with new encounters, and one is not afraid of catching a deadly disease. I believe religion actually diminishes the quality of sex...

Three religious leaders discuss why marriage seems to be a failing institution.

What's god got to do with it?

What is marriage but the formalizing of mating. It is a social institution that pretends to raise human mating above the rest of the species on this planet.

The greater question here should be:' what does religion have to do with marriage?' I mean what does religion have to do with mating? Except to pretend that human mating is overseen by god, or an attempt to control human sexuality, or perhaps to put the fear-of-god behind a commitment to procreate.

So, if religion is assumed to be such an important factor to good mating behaviors(as to only consult god's counselors for this feature), then marriage must be failing because of the failure of religion.

So what is it about religion that causes one of its most cherished and durable functions to deteriorate, especially when fanatical religion in America has resurged in the last 30 years?

Maybe the fact that humanity has overrun this planet and is currently in the process of realizing the extent of and the results of our destruction and befouling of the nest. Maybe it's time to stop marrying and stick to f**king.

I always love listening when ever Rabbi Boteach, is speaking, because I learn so much from him. Most of the time, it's not that I've learned it for the first time, but that I've relearned it. He always gives me one of those ah aw moments, like that's right. I love where he said, we should always want to do the right thing to be a good person, and not want to be good to someone else,because they were good to us first. Same goes as if they were not good to use we still need to be good to them. I know I try to be good, but if I've had my feelings hurt I am the first to admit I am thinking crap on it I'll show you who can be mean. So, it was a good message for me to hear, and I'll try to think of this every time I am not being that good person I should be. Thanks for the reminder and thank you for all your great words of wisdom.
