Teachers here in Canada are well paid and have a very rich retirement in most cases. That would be my best guess on how to start to fix the education system in America.
America should use it's power to try and correct human rights abuses (operative word is try) and take care of it's own people first. As individuals, encourage one another in the most positive ways possible to listen carefully. Less of; well that's pretty easy, get rid of the guns. They should be in the hands of the Police and the Military only and if someone wants to hunt, they can use a bow and arrow. Saving the earth? Yes, we can all do better. Be nicer to your wives, husbands, kids, friends. That's the place to start. Hell yes, demand political change; Americans do that better than any other country and you seem to always remember that the politicians paycheques come out of your pockets. History is history. It's done. Move on. You know in your heart of hearts you can make a better future for yourselves and the rest of the world.
