The smoke stacks could have scrubbers, but I don't know if China is willing to spend the money.

It is difficult for the "western" world to demand China, India, and other developing nations to be willing to be more conservative with their energy use. As monty1 stated, it is hypocritical. Just as the US isn't the best nation to get on China's case about Tibet and other human rights issues. With Guantanamo, we have taken the moral low road. It will take some time, but they will soon be on the operating end of a dominant world economy, and while they will be fighting for fossil fuels just like the U.S., I don't see them driving Hummers and I think they will find nuclear power the only solution to their exponential energy needs. And in truth, is it fair we ask them? I mean, we caused huge environmental damage in Industrialization, and so why should China be held to different standards when it wishes to do the same? Just throwing our hypocrisy out there.... Bigthink Fri, 25 Apr 2008 19:39:04 +0100 http://www.bigthink.com/science-technology/the-environment/10116/#15576
