Short answer: No!

Hedge funds are just a funds management businesses. They already pay taxes. And taxation doesn't address the core risk management issues.

If we are worried that their trading activities represent a potential threat to the stability of the financial system, it might be more sensible to introduce regulatory supervision. At least the risks will be known and the regulators would be in a better position to prevent market contagion events such as those recently experienced.
