Those people going to Sunday Church have HOPE that the 'carrot-on-a-stick' afterlife is good and true.

I am OPTIMISTIC that after I exercise, read books and meditate today I will be healthier, happier, smarter and stronger tomorrow.

I think that there is a distinct difference between optimism and hope. Optimism is looking at the good things in a situation, and hope is the pesonal want/need of something to change or happen.
