It may be the best thing to do for the rich, but it is not the best thing to do for the poor. Sales taxes have the effect of putting a greater tax burden on those least able to pay.

How does this work?

Poor people spend a much higher proportion of there income than their wealthier fellows. The rich might be spending more, but they are earning more. The tax benefit effectively applies to the amount of income that is saved. Poorer people hardly save anything at all.

The Republicans have very good at feeding the rich and starving the poor. You might pass your idea on to them.
