That is the Great Leap. The individual's sense of being or consciousness, is fairly easy to grasp and understand. The notion of the larger 'collective' or, as Jung posited, 'universal' unconsciousness raise serious epistemological questions<br /><br />The tendency in these large scale 'paradigms' is to take us away from our natural setting. The 'I' becomes bereft of essential meaning, yet it is the 'I' that experiences beauty and love. There is room--indeed a need--for the universal or, better, for community, but not at the expense of the individual soul.
