Your mother who raised you is your mother. She is the one you will think of when and if you have the make parenting decisions, because she "modelled" the behavior that you will draw on. Your father is also your mother, so to speak, as he is your biological connection to parenthood. His constant presence in your life from conception is an indicator of stability. Your surrogate mother was also your mother for a short period of time because she kept you safe while you grew within her body. Of course your biological mother is also your mother in that sense, biological. Her genetic blueprint is carried on in you and if you become a mother will be carried on in your child.

I had one biological mother who raised me and sadly she was not emotionally stable and brought emotional and physical harm to some of her 7 children. My father is a wonderful Dad and I'm glad to say we're celebrating his 81st birthday at the end of this month. My mother died about 7 years ago but we thankfully made peace long before that. I am a lucky person as I have a great 18 year old daughter and we love each other and get along quite well.

I hope that the question, Who is my mother? is one, that when you find the right answers, reassure you that you carry all of the best qualities of all the people that have touched your life along with your own great talents, thoughts, idiosyncracies and beauty. Mother in a dictionary sense is your *birth mother. In the "spiritual" sense its your surrogate mother. If i was in your position I'd say your surrogate mother is your "mother". Conversly.. obviously if someone asked me who my birth mother is i would say my biological mother. Bigthink Wed, 16 Jan 2008 23:16:50 +0100 http://www.bigthink.com/identity/personal-history/3919/#1157
