It's a battle of getting a prosperous mind to exhibit any sympathy or charity to his counterpart. It's a losing war. It can't be changed. The rich will never desire the procurement of class structure. Their vanity is defined in relation to the lack of, in the rest of society. I reside in the downtown eastside of Van and you could never convince me that giving time or charity would solve any of this. It's more a shift in human condition and government policy. Yes, I said government. But I'm from Canada remember. Giving someone something presupposes a favour, but we can work with poor folks for different reasons, and on different grounds. It's interesting to think about working together in a way that allows both sides to learn/grow, which often isn't present in the 'service' or 'benevolence' that charities assume they're doing. I agree that it is important when giving either time or money, it is ideal that I do so in a way that sees that we are all connected and that no one person is superior to another no matter their socio-economic status.
