Fear has led Americans to agree to more walls, institutionalized paranoia, xenophobia as official policy, et al. Americans are afraid and there is an instinct to huddle together, act together, think together - you're either part of the group or an enemy - no dissent is tolerated.

Refering to the 14 points, I'm particularly saddened by the decline of organized labor and the ascendancy of rapacious corporate greed. I believe our elections aren't as rigged as suggested but they are heavily manipulated, not as fair and simple as they should be, and there is currently no meaningful possibility of plurality in the system (how many independents, meaning non-Democrat/non-Republican, ever get elected?) The party gatekeepers decide who we get to vote for, that part is rigged, but the actual votes, not so much.

Thanks for the question, I wanted to pose it myself, and thanks for linking the 14 points, very interesting. Fascism at least was a system of popular fanaticism, where things got done at an accelerated pace. In modern day America, apathy rules, with the average person too distracted by an acutely moronic popular culture to care enough about anything important. I too have noticed the increase in the facsist activity of the United States. If you want to read something else on fascism, you should read Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell. It's got some great parallels to America as well. Bigthink Fri, 18 Jan 2008 20:11:22 +0100 http://www.bigthink.com/the-world/the-united-states/5199/#3211
