We should all be thankful for this and hope for the violence to end completely.

But is the surge responsible for the decrease in violence. I heard (somewhere) that the main reason for the drop in violence was a decrease in the weapons sent by Iran into Iraq. If so, I don%u2019t see a direct relationship between the violence and Iran%u2019s willingness to supply the insurgents.

Rather the recent intelligence revelation that Iran was not developing nuclear weapons would seem more causal. One could speculate that the administration agreed not to attack Iran if Iran limited its weapon supply to the Iraqi insurgents. One way to firm up such an agreement would be to state that Iran was not pursuing nuclear weapons.
Bigthink Thu, 28 Feb 2008 18:41:21 +0100 http://www.bigthink.com/policy-politics/iraq/5222/#10030 Comment on: What is meant by "The surge is working" and "Win the war in Iraq"? http://www.bigthink.com/policy-politics/iraq/5222 The success of the surge in shown in that the Shiah government is now allowing the Sunni's to re-enter the political process. The Baathist's are once again a legitimate political party.

There has also been a decline in Sunni tribal violence, as well as a Sunni "rebellion" against AL Qaeda in Iraq.

This is also important political progress, and will lead the way to peace for all Iraqis.
