First off I would like to say that my vote would go with the Spartan. Reason being historicly, spartins were taken from their parents at 7 years of age and trained for war, they were required to train and, if need be fight, until the day they died. Samurai were noblemen who pledged fealty to their noble Lord and faught as his peons with no formal training.

In addition I would like to firstly thank you for you comment as well as say that I already understand that this theory has no basis, with evidence far beyond that Darwin renouced his theory (read The Evolution Cruncher). I merely wanted to find out what an evolutionist would have to say to my question.

In a one on one fight the samurai would win, they were trained, armed and armored for that purpose. Spartans trained for fighting with other Spartans at their side, so if it was a group battle (say 5v5) or larger than the Spartans would win.
