Its not that the government (politicians) want you to stop taking drugs they just want you to take the drugs made by companies they own.

We all know cigarettes are absolute poison, but its still just too good a business for the people involved to just abandon it.

I am by no means an expert on this subject, but I watched a program on CBC Newsworld last night called "Prince of Pot," which detailed the increasing influence of the US DEA into Canada's drug policies and legislation.
Studies from the late 19th Century to the present on the effects of marijuana have almost unilaterally agreed that marijuana is not addictive and has fewer health and social consequences than alcohol and cigarettes.

The thing that i really do not get is this. Why is it illegal anyways? My main point here is that alcohol does way more damage to society than marijuana has or ever will. Except for the crime associated with genereal drug trafficking.
