I think the real deal should be to give the site a major visibility...

You can appreciate or hate the layout, yet must be said that almost NO ONE (if confronted with the other web2.0 sites) knows about this place.

Its potential is huge, enormous, and yet so little is done to unleash this potential through peoples.

I would also add more section, maybe something specifical, like Maths or IT, or something like that, also in the non-science sections.

You should keep all of that. If you delete it this will just be another forum.

One thing though is a way to track comments.

Clean up all the web 2.0 clutter.

The side-bar is cute, but takes up too much space.
A top-menu would be better.

Get rid of captchas, they are really annoying.
Use one captcha for login, instead.

Remove the "Join the conversation, Respond to this idea" button.
This only serves to fragment a good argument.

Alloy quote and reply to a specific comment.

Get rid of the scroll bar on the idea body.
Allow it to grow instead.
Or, restrict the idea body to 255 chars.
