Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

That was really hard. I feel guilty for leaving out so many books. There is no way I would actually limit my list to five if a person was really asking me what to read. I would feel a responsibility to insure extensive reading. I have to click send now or I will agonize more over my list.

Now that some others have voiced their opinions, I'll give my own, though more opinions are still quite welcome. I don't agree with all of the ideas in the following works, but I do feel that reading any would be time well spent, and I would go so far as to call them must reads for anyone living in our times.

Age of Reason %u2013 Thomas Pain

Candide %u2013 Voltaire

An inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations %u2013 Adam Smith (long hard read, but worth wading through)

Utilitarianism %u2013 John Stuart Mill

Leviathan %u2013 Thomas Hobbes

I dont know if I have 5 MUST reads for any and everyone, but I can think of a few.

Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky -best book I've ever read (don't look ahead at the end if you read it)

Enders Game by Card (Very light but very good)

End of Faith by Sam Harris
