Most people have no say in making any of the laws they are required to obey. They obey, mainly because they don't want the hassle of being arrested, going on trial and possibly ending up in prison for a good chunk of their lives. Just because voters elect government officials, doesn't mean the voters are responsible for what the elected do, after reaching office. Politicians lie whenever it suits them to further their own ends or the ends of those who helped them get elected. Public perception is an illusion perpetuated by the mass media, which in turn is mostly controlled by big business and wealthy, powerful groups, who shape what they want the public to see and hear. Laws are there to control the populace, mostly for their own good. But some people are immune to the Law. But for regular folks, the Law is a set of rules to follow, like the Ten Commandmants. Getting caught breaking the Law, is what gets people in trouble. Lawyers exist to help those with money or even those without,(in the case of a public defender), when they get into trouble with, or need knowledge of the Law.<br />But to say all Laws are a contract, is like saying everyone agreed in some kind of public forum, to a set of rules and signed papers to all abide by these agreed upon rules. Most people are only aware of the most basic laws and traffic rules. Don't steal, murder, lie, cheat or speed. Don't drink and drive. Don't do illegal drugs. Don't shoplift or steal Cable TV. Most people know right from wrong. No one signs any "contract" to obey the law. Bigthink Sun, 02 Mar 2008 16:23:56 +0100 http://www.bigthink.com/truth-justice/7736/#10315
