I know I am not ambivalent. I am strictly straight. Yet I have no anxiety about others sharing my rights. Does it mean I cut my rights in half? No. I wish all Americans can partake in the rights in which our forefatehrs died for.

To be honest, 1 in 10 men are gay. 6% of a general society is gay. (once you include women) This has been universally true since we have started taking statistics.

Ironically, you would think that societies that hate and do kill gays would show different numbers. If societal, the threats would deter them. They don't.

Despite the Rod Parsleys, the Pat Robertsons, etc., God is still there.
I know who God is, and you have no footing here.
Bigthink Fri, 23 May 2008 08:24:50 +0100 http://www.bigthink.com/identity/8199/#18315 Comment on: Re: Gay Rights: What needs to change in America? http://www.bigthink.com/identity/8199 A very empowering perspective, Professor Yoshino. Thanks for those sage words.

The quest for equality starts with the particular minority group coalescing into a more powerful entity -- hence the birth of identity politics. There is power in numbers, so that's where legacy starts and I guess that's where it can end up mired.

Bigthink Sat, 05 Apr 2008 02:39:43 +0100 http://www.bigthink.com/identity/8199/#13504 Comment on: Re: Gay Rights: What needs to change in America? http://www.bigthink.com/identity/8199 I was so prepared to disagree (that's prejudice for you) but you've spoken my thoughts exactly, though in legalese.
I have often felt that letting go of the concept of 'group identity' was integral to progress. It seems every time we open our eyes to the mistreatment of one group we overcompensate to the detriment of another. This can't happen if we erase the lines between groups and pursue betterment for all.
Education for all.
Equitable wages for all.
Fair trials for all.
All for all.

Bigthink Mon, 24 Mar 2008 18:46:41 +0100 http://www.bigthink.com/identity/8199/#12287
