It's academic think from people who want to go back to the ivory tower. Well, go to grad school.

Or maybe it's Charle Rose Web 2.0 style.

There are very real, very practical problems going on in this world.

How does technology affect politics? Let me rant.

How about soliciting suggestions Bigthink Wed, 21 May 2008 14:35:55 +0100 http://www.bigthink.com/science-technology/the-internet/8568/#18037 Comment on: Is technology good for politics? http://www.bigthink.com/science-technology/the-internet/8568 Personally, I'd like to know with 100% certainty that my vote is counted as one vote and for the candidate I voted for. To know that we have reached the 21st Century and apparently cannot develop the technology required to have fair, honest, and accurate elections in the United States. This is really pathetic. The system can be made very secure to prevent hacking and validation methods can be used to insure hackers cannot break the system. Also, with the ability to vote online, more of the population would vote making it more worthwhile. Easy hacking, that's why. Those sites and systems that offer "secure" transactions are simply lying.

Hundreds of millions of dollars were spent to create "secure" voting machines and all that money squandered, the machines are all easily hackable. Only half our population votes. I buy insurance, pay my taxes, purchase flights, do my banking all using the internet. Why can't we vote over the internet? Bigthink Tue, 11 Mar 2008 02:34:47 +0100 http://www.bigthink.com/science-technology/the-internet/8568/#11090 Comment on: Is technology good for politics? http://www.bigthink.com/science-technology/the-internet/8568 Providing tools for participation in politics has to be a good thing in representative democracy. (ie. e-voting, e-mail) Of course these tools need to have the capacity to filter out noise and have an audit trail; but relatively free exchange of information fosters a responsive and accountable political body. Bigthink Tue, 11 Mar 2008 02:10:19 +0100 http://www.bigthink.com/science-technology/the-internet/8568/#11086 Comment on: Is technology good for politics? http://www.bigthink.com/science-technology/the-internet/8568 Absolutely it's good--though there are drawbacks, for instance all the negative campaigning spreads like wildfire with the Internet and TV ads--pretty sure Presidential candidates of yore didn't have to contend with it as much. Then again, maybe it's good that we know all the dirty laundry of our politicians. Elliot Spitzer should have kept his laundry a little better hidden--but glad to know he is a total hypcrite.
