Think how easy it is to replicate, for example, sculpture. Google Studio Roc, they've revolutionized laser technology and can now much more easily cut through difficult stone like limestone. Pieces that may have taken the Italian masters years to make, can now happen in weeks. So one major theme, I suppose, is that technology is speeding up art. Big Think interviewed Simon de Pury who was way ahead of the curve on this one. He's got videos up online on his website that help people get initiated with the art collecting process. Technology is changing the business of art. Video is a medium once relegated to a handful of performance artists and conceptual trailblazers like Joan Jonas and Bill Viola, and now it's in the core of the contemporary art canon. It's obviously a medium that we all relate to in a culture that worships at the altar of television. Where "Net Art" and interactive or digital art are headed, who can say, but it's bound to be the next big thing.
