State owned media is not set out soley to make profit and has some democratic aims but big corporations that own the media are concerned with money and nothing else. They do not have any responsibility to tell the truth, only to drawn in an audience who will be useful to advertisers and entertain them and not make them feel unconfortable. The state owned media like BBC and CCB are not perfect but are definitely better than Fox or NBC, who is owned by General Electric who profits from the War in Iraq. You should not separate these things. Any media that is going to have a large audience and make a lot of money is going to present views favoured by the elite audience, owners, and advertisers. There is not obvious censorship in private media but it is even more dangerous because of that, because people think that what they are watching is the truth. State media in a democratic system has checks and balances to make sure that it is reasonably accountable for what it says, private media does not.
