Sometimes we need a little nudge, I agree, but keep your rabbit ears on... and the ideas will come to you.

How can being "creative" work for me? http://www.bigthink.com/arts-culture/7499 I work in a competitive environment (TV/Internet marketing ) and am the most creative & forward thinking person I know (swear I'm not a concedes ass). My passion has always been the media, but not in sales where I am now; my true love is in the creative process. Coming up with the next great slogan, or the perfect media message... but living in a mid-market with no real local opportunities how does somebody break into that kind of advanced thinking marketplace?

Essentially, how can I let the creative juices flow... and make it a career?

Re: Can newspapers hobble on? http://www.bigthink.com/media-the-press/7487 I think newspaper entities will always live on, but through the next 10 years the evolution will change them dramatically! I work for the website of a large family owned newspaper, and the biggest threat is pure revenue. Obviously we can't charge the same for print advertising as we did 5-10 years ago since our readership is down dramatically from then... and online is nowhere near making up for those losses! I think the original idea is that the website will make up for revenue as print loses it, but the drop in print money has fallen out exponentially, making a huge ripple effect throughout the entire company. Bulk layoffs (20-30 people at a time) have only stayed off the execution... it's simply a matter of time before the print company of 300 becomes the online company of 75. The one thing that keeps print afloat for the time being is classifieds. They've been doing it for so long that the general public automatically go to the paper for jobs/cars/real estate/ etc.; but the new generation of professionals and consumers are straying away more and more.

Online is Newspapers saving grace, yes... but it will NEVER be as it was, and the big newspaper tycoons of years past are gone forever. Local news and information will remain the key player... but will only last for so long.

Re: Is the income gap growing? http://www.bigthink.com/business-economics/6738 I think it is absolutely true, and it scares the hell out of me!!! I fall right in that gray area where I could quickly and easily go either way. Every bit of me hopes things swing up... but it just takes one bad turn of luck to find yourself low income these days.

I'll tell you one thing, we don't live in a society of single income households anymore. For 5 years my wife and I have attempted it (while the kids were born and being raised) and it has been a constant uphill struggle. We look at families who put their kids in daycare by 3 months old, and while we feel sorry for the lack of bonding between parents and their kids... we are also a little jealous over the financial freedom and "extras" a strong second income can afford.

Re: Self Evolution http://www.bigthink.com/outlook-the-future/6735 ]]> Bigthink Fri, 01 Feb 2008 22:40:23 +0100 http://www.bigthink.com/outlook-the-future/6735 Is a kind person born that way, or cultivated? http://www.bigthink.com/identity/personal-history/6725 We all know that extremely happy and kind person that can't say a bad word... as well as that pissy and grumpy pain in the rear that grumbles at everyone and everything.

My questions is this: where they born that way or is that the result of lifes work?

I'm a happy and kind person in general, and I think I've been this way most of my life. Not because of religion or upbrining (my Mom & Dad are pretty grumpy peple), but because I've always just had that urge in life.

Re: When did you become conscious of race? http://www.bigthink.com/identity/personal-history/6724 Kept ignorant and raised in a mostly white community, it wasn't until my mid-teens that I became aware of race. to be quite frank, I'm a little pissed off at my parents for that! I went through social mishaps and personal conclusions that should have been resolved way earlier in life. It's quick to think others as ignorant or different due to race... and it often takes a great deal of effort and realization to see otherwise. I am very sorry for those I've hurt in the past with my words or actions and hope that society as a whole wakes up and sees the harm they are doing!!!

I can easily see how racism is born and kept alive today... it's partly because of hateful people that are using race as a form of releasing their anger, but I think it is mostly due to pure ignorance and lack of caring. Is a kind soul born or cultivated?

Re: Do we romanticize the impact of parenting? http://www.bigthink.com/identity/personal-history/6702 This is interesting, and I feel my family is the perfect example of how this is correct... and incorrect!

I am in no way whatsoever like my parents, with the exception a few common phrases. I don't think like my parents, and don't act like my parents, I don't like the same food they do and I don't have the same beliefs they do either... in fact, if I wasn't absolutely sure they were my parents I'd think I was adopted. However, my younger sister (4 years younger) is nearly a clone split down the middle of my Mom & Dad. From her sense of humor all the way down to her belief in God, she is their equal.

So what does that say about parents? I think it says they have a tremendous amount of influence... or none at all, but it's all based on the kid. I've always been independant and free thinking and my sister is a follower who can't be alone. Was there some strange occurance that happened inehr life but not mine? How can you know? Being only 4 years apart I can't imagine what it would be.

So my statement is, there is no perfect answer to this question... it truly varies case by case.

My questions is, do you believe that?
