KARMA...is it really such a good idea?

In the west i love running into people who grow up x-ian then reject it and fall back on some hallow form of "spirituality". In most cases this is marked by a hippy type belief in Karma without any regard for the entire culteral system which it is intrinsically tied to.

Why do you think people in the west are so drawn to this shallow and illconcieved notion of karma? or better yet if you believe in karma, have you too constructed your own idea of it and disregarded the entire culteral history from which it came? Why people...Why?

Islam and Free-will

: Over the past few years i have begun to study Islam. a major element of Islam is a belief in predestination or al-qadar. some claim that there is room for free-will. I find it difficult to view these view points as reconcilable. Does anybody have any thoughts on this issue?

: My previous question is very similar to this...still just hoping for someone to engage with. Organized religion offers some very strict doctines. in some cases other religions contradict or outright reject those doctrines...take hell for example. in the western traditions jews never belived in hell...christianity and Islam adopted it, they also adopted and then rejected notions of purgatory. My question is for anybody who holds a particular doctrine to be TRUE. please tell me what it is and offer some rational justification for it. Faith cannot be your only answer some level of rational thought would be appritiated.
