Would it work on both the level of the idea (getting notification if a new response is added to the idea) and on the level of responses (notification if a new comment is added to a response)?
Would it be possible to "subscribe" to an idea and even particular responses even if I haven't posted anything?

Thanks,

This is driving me crazy as well! Also, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the ordering of posts under their category, for instance, it seems like under "Browse ideas" the most recently commented threads would show at the front. Even the "view more" option does not bring up posts in real time chronological order.

I understand this may be done to reduce tit for tat wars; is that the purpose? What is the system of ordering how topics descend from top of page 1 back?

Hi Mickcurry,
Thanks for the feedback. We don't like seeing those types of comments up on the site. The challenge for all of us on bigthink is to keep from resorting to cheap and easy attacks on each other. Language like this discourages the thoughtful and nuanced conversation that we are trying to promote. If you think that Larry Summers is the world's worst economist, we want to see a strong, supported arguement, not just a snark attack. There's plenty of other places on the internet for that, just not here. Thanks!

Hi everyone,
Thanks again for the positive feedback. We too, "whoknows, " wonder how much of an impact the conversations that take here will have once people back away from their TV screens. Though I think we might be a little more optimistic about the more interactive and democratic role users can have on our site. As for flagging conversations Christi, you can "report" abuse on any idea that you find abusive. That being said, we imagine that some conversations are going to get heated, as some of the greatest issues that face us will be discussed on this site. Our hope is that enough well-intentioned folks use the site to moderate conversations and encourage thoughtful dialogue. Thanks again everyone for checking in! And please keep the feedback coming! -BT

Hi Big Thinker, I am really thrilled about your site. This is an excellent and novel idea for a meaningful chatboard (how I have longed for one)...one small issue going on here. I posted twice to Meta: wisdom: infinite knowledge. The original 15 odd responses have disappeared (and so has the original starter statement) so only the latest comment is 'up'.

A suggestion to make it possible to have conversations a person has contributed to (but not started) linked to their profile. In this way, you could check back in on how a dialogue about a topic is unfolding. I find it challenging to find a conversation that I participated in at an earlier time, even when I remember the heading it was under. Spending time on this website is A LOT like surfing. But sometimes I want to check back in on an earlier wave and I suspect this will grow even more difficult as the ocean of ideas continues to grow. Thanks for listening!

I also heard about on Colbert. I'm very curious to see how this site unfolds as it grows. The key is to keep it a respectful exchange of ideas and not become personal. It is very powerful for me to hear what people are thinking about and what is on their minds also reveals what is in their hearts, as well. I appreciate also hearing the different points of view, where I can integrate different ways of thinking without it becoming a right/wrong thing or positions to defend, thus blocking the intellectual exchange that ultimately takes us towards more whole ways of understanding the world, and one another.

As you say in the opening deal - it is good to have a voice, and hear the voices. To strengthen our collective capacity to skillfully address the worlds problems we need all the voices at the table. This site will exclude people who do not have access to the tech tools. However, it makes a far wider reach for discussion on important topics than I have yet seen (particularly if you can keep it respectful). Many Thanks!!!

I don't know how new this is, but at the end of each comment there is an icon (on my monitor, it appears as a square gray box with a white exclamation mark) which allows readers to "Report this comment". I haven't actually used it, but I assume it is a way to send complaints about inappropriate content.

I saw this on Colbert. Stephen, I know you're reading this - you are a stone genius! (I like the show better without the you-know-whos, proving that you are the source!)

It was a little gut-wrenching at first when I found out about the site, because I've wanted to put up something similar, (I work in the online video space) just couldn't prioritize it. However, I'm glad you did.

But ultimately, I'm not sure that reasoned discourse is all that useful. It's stimulating and comforting, but life happens more in our gut than our heads (another revelation from the genius Colbert show), and we're always surprised when our 'plans' go awry.
