Thanks for your comment. We are working on a way for users to see if similar questions have already been posted. Until then, it's best for users to do a quick search to check if a question they have has already been posted on the site. Thanks for your valuable feedback.

There should be some way to keep people from posting the same question over and over again. I've seen multiple "Does God exist?" and "What is love?" posts, maybe when people type a title for their idea, it could bring up a list of similar titles and say "Do you mean this?" If the conversation they want to start is already happening, they can join in. That way, people would get more feedback for an original idea because it wouldn't be copied constantly.

Hi everyone. I think I'll take these one by one.

Mvicente: We agree, and will be rolling out that function in the coming months. Thanks for the feedback!

Elevatorsout: No problem! We're eager to see your ideas!

Levinzsky: You actually can agree or disagree with an idea. Its a slightly different function located towards the lower end of the box. Hope that helps!

pfastfoot: Yes, we will have this function ready for you soon as well! Keep checking the blog at www.bigthink.com/blog for updates.

I would like to second the request for a "favorites" option.

I also agree that it would be great to be able to share it with someone, but for me, I would like it because I don't want to have to try to remember where I located a particular video if I was just surfing around the site. In addition, some videos are longer than others, and sometimes I've found a video I like but for whatever reason I haven't been able to watch the entire interview.

Someone may have posted on this already - but I wish the "ratings" system on individual posts was not labeled by "interesting" or "irrelevant" .... someone may post a comment that I disagree with tremendously - but it may not be irrelevant..... I think the ratings should allow people to agree or disagree.
We could then begin to see where people's opinions lean, and who is capable of communicating them the best.
thank you.

Carlja9,
Thank you for your interest in the site and we hope you keep tuning in. We agree that our interviews can get better. Due to the editing process, and how we arrange videos on the site, our style is a little more constrained than Moyers, who we admire and love. One thing we've done is opened up the floor for questions on our blog, so please feel free to chime in. AND, if you see something you like, please let us know so we can get a sense of our better talks. Thanks!

I think that in order to navigate complex ideas, a type of cross referencing should be available, so that my specific idea could be an inspiration/love and happiness thought. Or an idea on arts & culture that deals specifically with business & economics.

I'm having problems watching the video-ed segments. (I live
in Asia - unreliable streaming). It would be helpful to have
a link to the transcript of the video segments. That way, if I
can't watch the videos, I can still read the content/message and then comment.
Also, I'd appreciate some guidance on setting up my user page. I'm
by nature a lurker, and not comfortable about what to put on the page.
Maybe some sample pages would be helpful. I'm 51 and have never done the social networking thing before, so I'm reluctant to jump in. I think
many 'reflective' and 'scholarly' people need assistance with this.
Continued success.

I love the idea behind your site--since I've long considered a good interview to be the best way to get to the heart of someone's life's work/wisdom/insights. But after reviewing a few videos I have to say the interviews are less than stimulating... I can't help comparing it to Bill Moyer's brilliant interview series, which does a great job of drawings out the interviewees... and blaming (without much evidence) the difference on your questioning process.
Who is asking the questions? How often do they interrupt? disagree? interact? It's an art; I don't think you've mastered it yet but will keep checking back.

Akademy,

As a clarification, would like a list of just questions in each topic area (i.e. wisdom or science & technology)? Currently, you can click "View More" on the recent and popular tabs which brings you to the browse ideas page and shows a paginated list of all recent ideas in that category. Would adding a field for choosing questions versus statements address your concerns?

Clarification - regarding the point above on back-navigation, the confusion seems to be when the 'master' question is posed by BigThinker and the subject says "Re:...", implying that it referred to an earlier idea.

I would also like to see the site 'Cookified'. For instance, my usage [ and I suspect, many others ] is to do a start in the page with entries for all categories listed. However, I want them in 'latest first' order and would like that option remembered. Also, this option seems to get lost [sometimes] when scrolling forwards and backwards in the list.

What I'd like to see most is more user guidance. Those ratings(?) icons at the side: do we use them or ignore them? the featured video of the day: could there be written identification of the speaker before you decide to invest time in the video? Finding the comments or the place to comment: coult there be a pointer to the forums. It is hard to find your way through if you are not dedicated to a solitary idea. More 1-2-3 steps for the wary novice who may too quickly decide the site is out of his/her league!

And the font size on the identification of the various speakers on some of the medleys are is just too small and fleeting to be useful.

It's great that a group can watch a YouTube Flash movie on the TV in the family room using the Wii. (Opera browser with Flash plugin).
Unfortunately, the Flash encoding on BigThink doesn't work on the Wii. You can see the player, but it's missing most of the controls and is not clickable.

And yes, that verification code IS hard to recognize if the words are not common ones. Since the comments are no longer posted immediately [?], it is tempting to keep trying and inadvertently add the same post several times. It's a bit hard to know if one guessed the right code or not. Requires feedback to the user for EVERY submit.
