We’ve gotten word of our first bug since the public launch of Big Think’s beta site earlier this morning. For those who tried registering around 9 am, there was a typo in the confirmation email which caused error messages to appear when you click through. Here’s how you fix it: The link was missing a forward slash (/) between www.bigthink.com and register (see: http://www.bigthink.comregister/step3?…) For those who experienced the problem, you can either add the slash to the url or email your user name at info@bigthink.com and we will activate the account for you.
I haven't been able to successfully leave a comment on any idea so far. The problem might be on my end, but I turned off noscript and adblock, then tried in Safari, and comments still weren't working.
If it is my fault, I've probably posted about twenty duplicate comments. Sorry.
There appears to be no way to find older ideas and replies. Search does not work. Hopefully it will be fixed. Right now the site is far from egalitarian.
This forum said I must login to post. But I was already logged in. When I clicked the login link, it wound up back at the home page. So this page has a bug.
There seems to be no way to preview a text idea and no way to re-edit the idea when the text is not formatted as expected in the text box. I assumed that no HTML was allowed in the text of an idea or response.
The listing of ideas in my profile has "report this idea" links. I clicked one since I didn't know what it was and it asked me if I wanted to report my idea. A) This is a bit vague since it doesn't say what it will be reported as (good thing? bad thing?) B) The report button did not get a help tip popup when I hovered the mouse over it, so I could not know what it was without clicking it.

MacOSX 10.4.11, Safari browser version 3.0.4 (523.12)
I click play and nothing happens. I have downloaded the player and still no play. My browser is Firefox. I will attempt using IE and couple of others.
I'm now unable to leave a comment. I have successfully made one already but now when I try to respond to "Re: How do we address the question of torture?" The comment doesn't work.
I've tried several times, I'm getting the captcha right as far as I can tell, and my character count is less than the 500 limit (at 425). I don't get an error when I submit but the text box just simply empties and no new comment appears.
I can give you the comment text I was trying to enter if it's needed.
Hi Akademy,
I'm a producer here at bigthink and just got saw your comment about comments. Let me know where exactly you were having trouble leaving comments and I'll see what I can do. We've run a few tests here and it seems to be working, so I want to make sure you're good to go.

Hi Brett, I seem to be having the problem again on another Idea page. "Big-Bang and Beyond" (Space and time section). The comment was:
(Start)
"I don't think "Author gives some flesh to the model of our universe that accommodates pre- and post-existences. Watch this space!" is a question or statement I can respond to. Neither do I think it's fair to reserve an idea as your own - particularly given that this Idea might be one of the biggest on Big Think."
(end)
It again acts in the same way as before. (I also tried the original comment problem on a totally different computer at home and the same problem occured)
I'm having the same problem as Akademy's first comment above: my comments on torture just go into the e-ther. In trying another route, I mistook the 30 character "Create an Idea" window for a way to title a more lengthy reply.
I'm using Windows XP and Explorer.
1. Responeses not posting in profile.
2. Beta Email Registration hangs to blank page.
Hi, I'm a new user. I have been trying to leave a comment on Rabbi Boteach's video about divorce, but every time it just disappears without a trace. I am a mac user and I just updated my software this morning, after seeing your note about that. Didn't help.
Akademy - that was my post on "Big-Bang and Beyond". The intent was not to reserve an idea. In fact, BigThinker suggested I do this before the character-limit was increased to allow for the full post. And I too have lots of Comments that don't stick - I've resorted to adding Ideas when they really should be Comments.
I was trying to post a comment to "The Internet: Good or Bad for US Economy" and after completing my post, the Captcha and hitting submit, my prose disappeared into thin air. Not good for my first experience!
Cosmos - Fair enough, I've run into the character limit myself. I certainly would have preferred to comment on the page, but the comment system still seems a bit flacky - but that's beta for you!
Sorry but getting the comment restriction again (on "Big Think - A Statement of Disappointment") I did forget to put the Captcha words in the first time I made the comment, could this be what's causing all subsequent comments (with captcha words input) to fail?
A number of you have written to us about a most annoying bug in our infant site — comments aren’t always registering on the site as they should. We’ve experienced this bug ourselves in the past few days and, quite frankly, it stinks–there’s nothing worse than being silenced when you’ve got something to say. But, rest assured, we’re working to figure out the cause of the problem and correct it as soon as possible. In the mean time, we suggest you “respond” to ideas, using the button to the right of the small video player on the idea page. As soon as the commenting snafu is corrected, we’ll send an update through the blog.
Bugs:
1. Can register multiple aliases to a single email address (assumed before "activation occurs"
2. After making a comment, you can rate your own comment. This shouldn't be allowed because it falsely reports other people's opinions.
3. I just saw a "-1%" for the agree/disagree buttons.
"88% agree, -1% neutral, 13% disagree"
Found on: http://beta.bigthink.com/policy-politics/2008-elections/1373 but probably won't be there soon after.
see my post in the "suggestions for Big Think" Forum to see a possible bug with forum postings at 31 posts. It seems, and I see this in IE and Firefox, that the reply text box does not show once a thread has 31 posts.
Two bugs, I think.
1) When you go to the forums from the main site, where you have logged in, you're required to log in again.
2) When you sort comments by popularity rather than date, it seems to just reverse the order rather than actually sort them by popularity. I'm not sure if it's just comments, or if it's also ideas, but I believe just comments.
I keep on adding my interests to my profile but the website keeps on rearranging them and taking some of them off.
Hi everyone,
We just want to let you know the 31 issue has been fixed. Thanks for pointing that out and your patience with it. Because of you guys, we were able to get on it right away. Zalethon, we haven't had that your first problem. Is it still happening? As for your second issue, we have had some bugs with the popularity function and are working on it. Thanks for the heads up. Gyan, I'm not sure exactly what is happening here, drop me a line at info@bigthink.com and we'll see if we can work it out from there. Thanks everyone!
Hi,
I'm a new user using Mac OS X 10.5.2 and Camino as browser. I could set up an account, but the "You" or "Profile" buttons shows only the "Browse ides" part of the "You" window, but not the part where I can edit my profile.
I checked it with Safari and it works ok there.
Thanks,
QuickEye
