1. Spell check please.
2. User Site History...need timeline of where user travels within site.(example: I am here, I was here...one click ago, two pages ago, three days ago, etc.)

- Posted 6 months ago

3. Need to be able to edit posts after being posted.

- Posted 6 months ago

I agree with the requests of tngldwbstr. I would also add that it is nice that you can email, bookmark, and post the video clips on facebook. However, as someone who operates a blog, it would also be nice to be able to download and/or embed the clips in any website or blog, not just facebook.

Thanx Alex, also...

4. I'm not seeing internal Email/Messaging support...is this not greatly needed to facitate collaborative participation?

Please give specific instructions on how to upload an avatar for one's profile. It would help non-gamers, like me, to explain what an avatar is, and where to find good examples. The TechWeb TechEncyclopedia gives a good definition. Here's their general URL: http://www.techweb.com/encyclopedia/ where you can input "avatar." But it doesn't give examples or URLs of where to find avatar images. Thanks much.

Editing of your past postings is a MUST!

Increase your standard text size. If my browser is set to normal text size your text size is LESS THAN 1/16 inch tall! If I increase the text size on my browser, all the text size of a quick reply or idea does not show, and there is no scroll bar to show it.

We'll be increasing text sizes and implementing spell check in the next few weeks as well as the ability to delete ideas. However, we're not going to allow the editing of ideas once they've been submitted. Here's our logic: allowing ideas to be edited may place respondents in the position of having their commentary or votes of support associated with an idea that has been substantially changed. We feel a good compromise is to allow the idea owner to delete the idea (and the comments with it), so they have the discretion to change their mind without placing in the others of endorsing changes to ideas they haven't seen.

Internal messaging/email is support is on it's way. We're working through the bugs of week one first and then will be focusing on putting in place more social networking like email, as well as favorites and feeds of new ideas. If you have ideas for specific features, please post them here.

The UI is overwhelmingly busy. I *want* to participate, but every time I go to the site I get so bowled over by the schizophrenic home page that I read a thing or two and then leave.

Please de-clutter the pages and allow me to focus on one topic at a time.

- Posted 6 months ago

thanks for your feedback Phil. The UI definitely has a lot going on, largely because we've got so much content to surface. Let us know what specific ideas you have by way of design, and we will look into implementing them.

I would like to be able to remove my sirname from my posts. I wasn't aware that the *name required didn't require me to reveal who I am to the world. Is it possible that my comments under the Marion Jones question could be altered to read "Granto" instead of my full name?

Thanks!

I've been waiting for a service like this, so good work!

Is there a way to start a "Favorites" list, especially one that other people can subscribe to? I agree that the UI is too busy, and I also agree that we need embed capability.

We should be able to save what we were writing, in case we have to go somewhere in a hurry.

(p.s.) Your verification code is hard to recognize.

- Posted 6 months ago

Please provide a simple way to navigate back from a response. As an example, you might have entered a discussion mid-stream and want to view the previous related-ideas.

- Posted 6 months ago

And yes, that verification code IS hard to recognize if the words are not common ones. Since the comments are no longer posted immediately [?], it is tempting to keep trying and inadvertently add the same post several times. It's a bit hard to know if one guessed the right code or not. Requires feedback to the user for EVERY submit.

YouTube works on Wii, Big Think doesn't.
It's great that a group can watch a YouTube Flash movie on the TV in the family room using the Wii. (Opera browser with Flash plugin).
Unfortunately, the Flash encoding on BigThink doesn't work on the Wii. You can see the player, but it's missing most of the controls and is not clickable.

What I'd like to see most is more user guidance. Those ratings(?) icons at the side: do we use them or ignore them? the featured video of the day: could there be written identification of the speaker before you decide to invest time in the video? Finding the comments or the place to comment: coult there be a pointer to the forums. It is hard to find your way through if you are not dedicated to a solitary idea. More 1-2-3 steps for the wary novice who may too quickly decide the site is out of his/her league!

And the font size on the identification of the various speakers on some of the medleys are is just too small and fleeting to be useful.

Aside from those minor complaints, I only fear addiction.

I would also like to see the site 'Cookified'. For instance, my usage [ and I suspect, many others ] is to do a start in the page with entries for all categories listed. However, I want them in 'latest first' order and would like that option remembered. Also, this option seems to get lost [sometimes] when scrolling forwards and backwards in the list.

- Posted 6 months ago

Clarification - regarding the point above on back-navigation, the confusion seems to be when the 'master' question is posed by BigThinker and the subject says "Re:...", implying that it referred to an earlier idea. Perhaps just remove "Re:" from the top-level post.

- Posted 6 months ago

I'd like to see a "Show all Ideas in the section" button that would show a quick list of the questions you could quickly scan down. There doesn't seem any easy way to do this at the moment.

- Posted 6 months ago

Akademy,

As a clarification, would like a list of just questions in each topic area (i.e. wisdom or science & technology)? Currently, you can click "View More" on the recent and popular tabs which brings you to the browse ideas page and shows a paginated list of all recent ideas in that category. Would adding a field for choosing questions versus statements address your concerns?

Thanks so much for the input.

Cosmos,

Can you point out which ideas from Big Thinker have Re: in the title? That is likely a mistake that we should correct.

BigThinker - You obviously know the secret on how to do line-breaks. Would you like to share this with us and save a bit of trial and error [grin].

- Posted 6 months ago

Big thinker,

Would I have ever chance to submit my ideas? I can't because I don't recognize the complex words in your verification code. English is my third language and I'm sure that I wouldn't be the first person who encounters this problem.

- Posted 6 months ago

BigThinker <b/>Yahoo, and probably many others have perfected this challenge thing. Have you had a look at what they have done? It well could be open-source or public-domain.

I love the idea behind your site--since I've long considered a good interview to be the best way to get to the heart of someone's life's work/wisdom/insights. But after reviewing a few videos I have to say the interviews are less than stimulating... I can't help comparing it to Bill Moyer's brilliant interview series, which does a great job of drawings out the interviewees... and blaming (without much evidence) the difference on your questioning process.
Who is asking the questions? How often do they interrupt? disagree? interact? It's an art; I don't think you've mastered it yet but will keep checking back.

I'm having problems watching the video-ed segments. (I live
in Asia - unreliable streaming). It would be helpful to have
a link to the transcript of the video segments. That way, if I
can't watch the videos, I can still read the content/message and then comment.
Also, I'd appreciate some guidance on setting up my user page. I'm
by nature a lurker, and not comfortable about what to put on the page.
Maybe some sample pages would be helpful. I'm 51 and have never done the social networking thing before, so I'm reluctant to jump in. I think
many 'reflective' and 'scholarly' people need assistance with this.
Continued success.

I think that in order to navigate complex ideas, a type of cross referencing should be available, so that my specific idea could be an inspiration/love and happiness thought. Or an idea on arts & culture that deals specifically with business & economics.

Carlja9,
Thank you for your interest in the site and we hope you keep tuning in. We agree that our interviews can get better. Due to the editing process, and how we arrange videos on the site, our style is a little more constrained than Moyers, who we admire and love. One thing we've done is opened up the floor for questions on our blog, so please feel free to chime in. AND, if you see something you like, please let us know so we can get a sense of our better talks. Thanks!
