New category needed:
Historic Preservation under Architecture or Culture & Arts.
Also, you need an automated system to add categories based on user requests, or on automated analysis of idea content threads.

This is an excellent and something we're looking into for our next big build, which is set for the next few months. If you'd be willing to curate the Historic Preservation section, we will add it. Let us know at bigideas@bigthink.com and put "Historic Preservation" in the subject line.
I saw this topic and just wanted to suggest that category development/insertion not be generally available - at least until the volume of postings of a significant topic be significant enough to warrant. Allowing people to arbitrarily create categories would dilute the ability to keep this site what it is - a think tank - otherwise we might be subjected to hierarchies such as Arts & Culture/Music/Tiny Tim...
