creative process

Through 5o years of working with actors, writers, composers, designers, choreographers and students I have learned to point out that when they get "stuck" and go blank, they are NOT in trouble. At this point they are blocking (for many reasons) an impulse of important creative value.

Through the activity of paying "attention" to the fear prompted by this seeming failure, and as it were, diving into it, remarkable insights are gained. This is to say: The hidden and the fearsome aspects of the creative process can be used to enhance the process itself. This is a viable technique and not an intuitive game.

I'm a songwriter myself, so I know quite a bit about the creative process. This is an interesting idea, and I'm constantly looking for new ways to kindle that part of my brain. However, any technique I try to do this runs dry eventually. I think what's truly creative is to find endless techniques of enhancing the creative process.
