Is there a word limit on posting text comments to a video? I've repeatedly tried to post a comment to Ayaan Hirsi Ali's answer to "where are we?" and it's not working. Really frustrating.
That's the very reason I just came here. I think there may be. That's really aggravating, because I can't hit "back" to see what I typed.
I think it should be cut to the first 200 characters or so, but you can click (continue...) to read the rest of it, so you don't have huuuge posts taking up the whole page or 50 consecutive posts by the same person.
I've tried to reply to several posts and only one has got through. Even short answers don't work. If the site doesn't work properly soon I'm giving up with it, its too frustrating.
Typing up a long comment just for it to go "woosh" is really frstrating and puts me off incredibly.
I just posted a comment and it didn't show up on the screen so I don't know if it was accepted. I know some sites have a delay before a comment shows up on the page so it can be reviewed for profanity/threats or whatever. I tried finding the community guidelines (which sent me to this page) to see if this site does that but could not find anything about it.
It would be nice if upon posting a message would come up stating "your comment has been received and will appear shortly" or something to that effect.
FYI: I contacted the site and, yes, they are aware of, and are attempting to fix, the problem with posting comments and responses. The site is only 8 days old and it's going to take a while to work out all of the kinks. Hang in there gang. I believe this is going to be a very good and useful site.
Good to know. I figured it being a new site there would be bugs to work out. I have saved my comment to a word document and will come back in a day or two to see if it's fixed. Thanks CeeTee9.
Yeah, that's what I figured - it looks like original code and the submission script isn't solid yet.
In the meantime, I've made an important discovery - It appears that apostrophes may have something to do with it... apparently not in here though...
So I got rid of the apostrophes and it worked. Thank you GBart, Good find.
THE ANSWER IS DONT USE APOSTROPHIES....DONT USE APOSTROPHIES....DONT USE APOSTROPHIES..
every body give GBart a round of appaluse
please fix the comments! very frustrating to spend time and thought only to have it erased beyond recovery.
Haven't tried it yet, but you might get away with the HTML equivalent "&-apos;" [ leaving out the "-" ]. <br/>If you see an apostrophe in the above sentence, at least it works in these posts.
I've posted a few items and - as you can see by reading this - the apostrophe issue has been resolved. I can be quite verbose at times, but I haven't run into a character limit issue yet.
Hey folks,
We've removed limits and have added formatting for response. There's more to come as well. Check the blog for updates.

Can you make it so that if I go to my page it will list the comments I've made? It would make it easier to see and address any additional comments.
We're working on a major revamp of both comments and responses and also what appears on your profile page based on user feedback. These changes are going to phased in over the next month and should address all the above issues. Thanks so much for your patience and your incredible feedback!
Hi Big Thinker, I am really thrilled about your site. This is an excellent and novel idea for a meaningful chatboard (how I have longed for one)...one small issue going on here. I posted twice to Meta: wisdom: infinite knowledge. The original 15 odd responses have disappeared (and so has the original starter statement) so only the latest comment is 'up'.
Bundoo, that doesn't sound good but I'm not sure I can diagnose the problem from here. Drop me a line at info@bigthink.com and I'll get back to you right away. -BT
