Hi I know this is primarily a site for exchanging ideas and discussion, but I have come to befriend a few people on the site and every once in a while when I notice that someone is on at the same time as me, I'd like to talk to them without cluttering up someones idea topics.

I agree. Something like chatrooms would be wonderful. But I think they should be dedicated to a certain topic because there are enough other possibilities to chat with someone (icq, skype).
