what if Trotski would of become the leader of the soviet union apose to Stalin?

What if Trotski would of acted on Lenin will, which stated that Stalin was to dangerous to stay in power, and Trotski would have taken over the Soviet union? Would the U.S.S.R have lost the cold war? What do you think would be the out come be? I only know for sure that it would be a totaly diferent Russia!
