From the great Carl Zimmer comes a link to a beautiful video of a siphonophore. (Click through jump to watch.) It includes soundtrack from the scientist who has discovered many new species of these beings, each of which is more analogous to a beehive than a fish—a siphonophore is a colony of many separate clones, groups of which do different life-sustaining tasks.

This is what a good day is like for a science writer—somebody passionate and knowledgeable letting you see some of the beauties and insights they've won from parts of the universe you never knew about, or never noticed.
