More fast growth among global for-profit universities seems probable and the number of globally mobile students is likely to surge as higher education's globalization continues. Under a new "regional globalism", more students will study abroad but within their own regions. Ben Wildavsky, Kauffman Foundation senior fellow in research and policy, says a flourishing for-profit sector may increasingly offer "an effective route to advancement, with no need to pass through the doors of a top-ranked university." Globalization has already seen cross-border research collaborations more than double and partnerships between leading Western universities and institutions in Asia, Europe, and beyond are expanding quickly.
