INSPIRATION

Not Just a Piece of Coth

Have you ever thought about how the clothes sitting unused in your closet could be used by someone in need? I imagine you have, but have you done anything about it? Have you ever thought that the t-shirt in your closet could be used in multiple ways -- reused, repaired, even made into something else like a school bag, floor mat or even sanitary napkins? Goonj, an organization based in New Delhi, India is doing just this, and through it's work and programs is providing clothing (one of the 3 basic needs) to millions around India. They have also started a truly amazing program that is providing rural women in India with a basic amenity we take for granted here in the west -- sanitary napkins. They took clothes that can not be re-used, t-shirts, saris, sheets, anything really and make sanitary napkins out of what would be considered waste, and distribute them freely to women in rural India. This is an idea worth replicating, worth knowing about and worth supporting.
