Do we have a moral obligation to lessen our impact on our environment?

Uploaded on 01/13/2008
If so, is that obligation rooted in the Divine (God made the Earth, and we must respect God's creation), some responsibility to future generations (we must leave our children a better world than we ourselves received), or is there room for self interest (example: toxic fumes from a chemical plant in my town are carcinogenic, and I don't want cancer, so we should treat our environment with greater respect). Is there a way to combine the three? Am I missing a necessary facet of the discussion?
