What "Wall" of this type, in human history, ever been a positive solution?

It's a sad example of history repeating itself; though not exactly, yet all too similarly.

We honestly know that a "fence" or "wall" are not a "best solution." Correcting and improving factors, causing disillusioned immigrants to come to the US, is the only beneficial course. Supporting and educating other governments to beneficial scenarios and practices for the good of their citizens, is a solution.

Though that would mean that the USofA practices the same and is not (too often) controlled by wishes of the corporations/lobbyists and the like.
