I'm a veteran. I served for twelve months in Iraq. I returned to the United States early last May. Just before the new year, an opportunity arose in which I would be able to return there or possibly go to Afghanistan instead. I gladly volunteered. I do not yet know where I'll go, when I'll leave or how long I'll be gone. I don't care.
Bottom line up front: I don't care about the way I'm treated when I come home. Shitty treatment won't stimulate a response from me unless a person is trying to harm me physically (in which case, I will retaliate). There isn't anything another American can do to me to revoke the sense of accomplishment that I have for doing what I've chosen to do for our country. I've experienced worse.
