Re: Technology and Human Rights

Uploaded on 02/29/2008

What about Genetically Modified Food? I have read reports that tout GMO rice and corn, manufactured by Monsanto, as the way to feed the [third] world, even though we have no indication that it would be safe for the human system to ingest.

Environmental Health Perspectives (ehponline.org) has just published a study on the effects of pesticide exposure in children (Jan 2008). Researchers concluded that dietary intake from produce is the main source of organophosphorus pesticide toxin exposure for children. Results also indicate that a 5-day washout period with an organic-produce diet reduced toxin levels to none-detected or close to none.

Is this a human rights issue? These toxins impact the human nervous system negatively and contribute to various malfunctions and diseases.
