Re: What is the legacy of colonialism in Africa?

Uploaded on 01/08/2008
While it is essentially the responsibility of Africans to make things better, the tools to do so are not afforded them. Africa lacks the economic infrastructure, adequately funded social institutions and religious/ethnic tolerances to move forward. Africa is handicapped by staggering debt, perpetrated by western banks and countries. Once you address the issue of debt there is the issue of ownership. As much as we in the west trumpet capitalism as the greatest of all economic concepts, it is based partially on a belief that the individual will act in the best interest of the society when called upon. However, capitalism fosters greed. So even if you remove the western corporate influences, you now will be left with those domestic elements that would desire to fill the vacuum.
