Why does the American government have a war on drugs, while at the same time our government was the sponser of those who introduced cack cocaine to the streets of the United States? Shouldnt we have a war on poverty instead? An active war on poverty would eliminate poverty and the mojority of drug use in America.

Re: DRUGS in AMERICA/ POVERTY in AMERICA
It is a well know fact that America is the major supplier and consumer of drugs. I mean think about it. Yes, drugs are smuggled into the United States but come on this is America, a superpower. If America was truly concerned about drugs or the so called war on drugs than America would be able to stop the flow of drugs into the country. Most drug dealers in urban cities are African American with a Columbian connect but how do those drugs get through the airports and how are these private planes constantly being flown with no account of where the money is coming from. There truly is no war on drugs there is only talk about a war on drugs. America always has to sound concerned about the welfare of all of it's citizens. Right?

Re: DRUGS in AMERICA/ POVERTY in AMERICA
It's a fact that most drugs make people fien and become addicted. Drug addicts loose all emotions and don't think rationally. They plundge themselves into poverty because all they can think about is getting high. Thier family(Kids, Husband, Parents, Girlfriend/Boyfriend) no longer matter anymore. I have seen alot of friends go down the drain in this same manner. They loose their jobs, girlfriends, family, friends; everyone that cares for them. All for what? Drugs. This is why i belive that the war on poverty depends alot on the success of the war on drugs(which is failing in my honest opinion).

A war on poverty could do those things IF they knew how to end poverty. I think Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty in the 1960's was well-intentioned but misguided. Ending the War on Drugs would be a huge step in the right direction, but the best solution to poverty was proposed by Henry George in 1879 in his book Progress and Poverty.

i agree. the war on drugs is failed. just as in alcohol prohibition, consumption increased, so, during the drug war, drug use has steadily risen. the benefits from legalising such drugs as marijuana, psilocybin, salvia divinorum, coca, absinthe, and others are too great to list here, but they far far outweigh the cost of fighting the war and criminalising thousands and thousands of otherwise innocent americans.
