Should people/groups resort to violence to solve social and economic problems?

What are your thoughts on armed revolutionary groups, riots, etc? Do groups like the EZLN lose the integrity of their cause by resorting to violence as a solution? Or is it necessary in order to achieve their goals and do what is right? Does the loss of life outweigh the good that is done?
