Jeanne Shaheen

Jeanne Shaheen is known as the first woman to be elected governor of New Hampshire. She has also served as Director of Harvard University's Institute of Politics, before she resigned to run for the United States Senate in the 2008 elections as a Democrat Democrat. Shaheen was born in 1947 in Missouri and educated at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania and the University of Mississippi. After teaching high school in Mississippi, Shaheen moved to New Hampshire, where she owned a small business. She first ran for office in 1990, when she was elected to the state Senate.
